18 tips on how to moisturize your dry hair

Living in Colorado, we understand the problems our climate can have on your hair. We've put together 18 simple and effective tips below on how you can combat dry hair here in Colorado (or any other dry climate). Do you have other tips that we didn't cover? Let us know in an email, or drop by the salon!• Use a thermal protective hair styling product before using hot tools such as blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron, hot rollers etc…• Consider using round brush while styling your hair versus flat irons that applies direct heat to your hair• If you prefer using flat irons and curling irons to style , try to keep the temperature setting to low• Experiment with hairstyles that does not require hot tools such as braids, buns , pony tails etc..• Over washing can cause dryness and remember you only need to apply shampoo to your roots and mid shafts not to your ends• You can never use too much conditioner• While conditioning your hair make sure to towel dry your hair because your hair is like a sponge and if it is too wet it will not soak in the product such as the conditioner or masque• Before exposing your hair to sun use a hair care product that provides sun and Uv protection, your hair and skin gets 80% of the damage from sun. While applying sun screen to your skin do not forget about your hair .• Chlorine and salt water can dry out your hair as well, before going to pool or ocean make sure your hair is waterproofed by applying a thick coat of conditioner , leave in treatment or oil• When the weather is extra dry during winter switch to a richer conditioner and add in a masque with every wash• Too many chemical treatments can lead to dry hair. Seeing a stylist that is highly trained in coloring and highlighting techniques will help prevent chemical damage such as not pulling through your highlights every time unless you are going lighter than your previous color. Your stylist can fish for your previous highlight pattern to avoid over-processing• Use hair color that conditions the hair, ask your hair professional about the color line that is being used on you• You can also get hair glossing treatments such as cellophanes whether you are coloring your hair or not. Hair glazing will add moisture and shine to your hair• Look for non-chemical straightening treatments. There are great options available as far as keratin smoothing treatments which are designed to prevent frizz and dryness and add moisture that is needed back in your hair• Bad brushes can cause dry hair, choose a brush that is made of boar bristles which is designed to distribute your natural oils throughout your hair gently• Apply a primer or oil to your hair before brushing to ease the process and prevent damage. Always start brushing from your ends and move up to easily untangle the hair• Take time for an in salon hair treatment at least once a month that can be provided by your hair stylist• Get frequent trims ; the ends of your hair has been around longer so it tend to be the driest and the most damaged , the frequent trim will make your hair look healthier and fresh also will help growing your hair
