Tape-in Hair Extensions
Here at Ergun Tercan European Salon in Denver, Colorado, we do offer tape-in hair extensions. A consultation is required, to determine these type of extensions are right for you, and what your desired goals are in using hair extensions. Below are some frequent FAQ’s to help you gain a better idea about these tape-in extensions.
What is a Tape-in hair extension?
A tape in hair extension is a weft of hair with a strong adhesive clear strip where all the hair comes together at the top of the weft.
How are tape-in hair extensions applied?
The natural hair is basically parted horizontally across the scalp in different sections. Then the adhesive strip at the top of the weft, basically the “tape strip”, would be placed at the root area of the natural hair it is being adhered to. Then another adhesive tape strip to lock in the tape on the back side. The best analogy I can give you, is to imagine two pieces of tape stuck together sticky sides facing each other. Now picture a weft of hair in between those pieces of tape stuck together and include one’s natural hair. Essentially, this is what tape-in extensions are.
How are these extensions removed?
To remove these type of hair extensions, the two sides of tape are slightly pried apart, and a dissolving solution is placed down the center. This breaks up the adhesive and the two sides of tape are pulled apart from each other and the natural hair.
How long do these type of extensions last?
Very similar to the wefts that are sewn in, a new piece of adhesive tape can be reapplied to the top of the wefts and the same hair/wefts can be reused. Again keep in mind the quality of hair and how that plays a key role in the life span you will get out of your wefts. Because the adhesive tape is not meant to live in the hair for long periods of time, you will need to come in for maintenance more frequently. This might be a recommendation fit for the person who wants to wear extensions longer than recommended for clip ins, yet not sure about keeping them for the longevity that keratin bond extensions would provide. With proper care, maintenance, and products you can expect about a 4-6 lifespan with tape in extensions.
Are there any warnings about this type of hair extension I should be aware of?
When the application is done through a licensed professional, certified as a hair extension specialist there is no damage to the hair. Along with proper care, maintenance, and use of recommended products by the client the integrity of the hair will remain as cared for.Unlike our keratin bond extensions, we need to order your tape-in extensions for you, once a thorough consultation has been completed and we deem this style of extension as a fit for you.
